The Elon Musk Vs. Mark Zuckerberg has been buzzing for a while now. Many speculated that there will be a MMA match, a boxing match, or any other match where these two Titans will come face to face and beat each other to death.
Mark played another game called Facebook vs. Twitter by introducing threads to take a shot on Elon in his own territory Twitter. Now the Titans are at it on who provides a better experience in this platform space.
The new social media app threads was launched on the 5th of July 2023 and was only available if you had an Instagram account. Well, there is no saying that Instagram is one of the top 5 social media platforms in the world and has a huge user database.
Within no time at all, threads reached more than 100 million sign-ups and look like a serious threat to Elon’s Twitter. Elon also was not going to stay calm, he also changed his logo from the long-carried blue bird to an “X”. We are not sure what that logo intends to mean but anyway,
As an end user, you may be thinking if you should switch to the new threads or stick to the same old classic Twitter with a new logo.
10 Features Meta's Threads Are Still Missing
–> Love what’s trending?
Unlike Twitter, threads do not have a trending topic or what’s trending around your section. This is a major put-off for people who could consider using threads. A majority of twitter users spend time on Twitter for the same reason and they may stick to it.
–> No Ads
Threads do not bombard you with ads like Twitter. It is a new platform and we are sure that Meta would not risk showing ads to their user database who are just getting started to know the platform.
–> Love embedding?
With threads, you cannot create an embedded post link that you can later use on your blog or other platforms. This feature is available on almost every social media platform.
–> Feed segregations
Twitter segregates feeds for those you follow and other trending topics. Threads on the other hand does not have a segregaton system which means you will see random posts from anywhere at any time.
–> Browser limitaion
Twitter can be used through a phone or a web browser giving you options to use the platform with different means. Threads on the other hand is a mobile platform only.
–> No DMs
With threads, you can kiss DMing your friends goodbye as this feature is not available(yet). On the other hand, Twitter gives you the liberty to slide in anyone’s DM and they are end-to-end encrypted.
–> Hashtags gone?
The hashtags game is not yet introduced in threads. We all know that Twitter’s back bone is hashtags and they cannot function without it. We will have to see if they would allow hashtags in the near future.
–> Editing
You cannot edit once you post on threads. With the latest update in Twitter, if you are a premium user you can edit the content of your tweet. In threads have no other option but to delete the post.
–> Alt text with AI
Threads use AI’s assistance for video or image description which can be a problem for users who rely on screen readers.
–> Chronology puzzle
Users of Twitter can switch to a chronological feed, but Threads only offers a randomly generated one. You must accept whatever it chooses to serve you at any given time.
Conclusion
Though threads is a very new social media platform in the market, it is power-packed and will attract GenZs who already are comfortable with Instagram. As per the lacking features are concerned, we have seen social media platforms getting evolved from time to time and we may see threads catching up as well in the near future.
